Energy Busters
If there's too much waste,
of our precious energy,
who ya gonna call?
Our Energy Busters!
Term 3 Energy Busters Update
As we head in to the cold winter spell, it's easy to over consume our resources. This term our Energy Busters are asking us to focus on two simple things, our use of lights and heaters. As the days get shorter and overcast, we need to use our lights more often. As the temperature drops, we need to use our heaters to help keep us warm. But, do we need to leave both of these resources ON ALL DAY???
Our classroom light fittings contain two 36W florescent light globes, and our classrooms have six of these light fittings. When we add these twelve light globes together and convert the watts to kilowatts, we worked out that we are using 0.432 kilowatts of electricity every hour that our lights are on in our classroom. That's 0.298 kilograms = 298 grams of greenhouse gas emissions every hour we us our lights. That's almost six black balloons every hour!
If every class left their lights on over our recess break, we would be would sending out into the Earth's atmosphere almost 90 black balloons of unused greenhouse gas emissions!
Help us to save the planet by turning off your lights when they are not needed. Also, try opening the blinds and making use of natural light as much as possible.
